Trethellan Cottage

Historic barn conversion with all modern amenities ideal for couples, families, and friends.

Trethellan Cottage started life as a storage barn to East Trethellan Farm.  We have found no reliable records to confirm construction date, but we do know the farmhouse dates back to the 17th Century.  In the late 20th Century, the barn was used as a dog boarding kennels.  The previous owners converted the barn into a residential property around 10 years ago.

You will enter the property into the spacious lounge/dining/kitchen, complete with oak flooring, vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.  The lounge area has comfortable seating for four and a TV with Freeview and DVD.  The kitchen is equipped with a gas cooker, electric oven, microwave, separate under-counter fridge and freezer, and a dishwasher.  The farmhouse dining table comfortably seats 4 and we can provide a highchair for little ones on request.

The Cottage offers 1 double and 1 twin bedroom.  The twin room can easily be presented as a single if you’d like more space, and we can provide a travel cot if your little one isn’t quite ready for a big boy/girl bed.

To the front of the property is a garden with outdoor eating area.  We can provide a large charcoal barbeque if you’d like to spend time relaxing in the garden.  The front garden overlooks one of our fields where you will find either alpacas or ponies (depending on our field rotation) asking you cheekily for vegetable peelings in the mornings and welcoming you home after a day out sightseeing.  The back garden includes a rotary drier and easy access to a shared laundry room with washing machine.

Parking for the property is provided a very short walk from the front garden where there is easily space for 2 cars.

The cottage is simply and comfortably furnished, clean and well-equipped, with a roomy kitchen/sitting room. Our bedroom was warm and cosy, with a good bed, nice cotton bedding and fluffy towels. The welcome tray with tea, coffee and biscuits was especially appreciated after a long drive. Iain was welcoming and friendly, and we felt able to make ourselves at home and have a relaxing few days away. The location was excellent, and we managed a great deal of sightseeing in our short visit. We found the seclusion, the silence at night, and the peaceful setting very therapeutic at the end of our busy days out and about. We would happily return to Trethellen Cottage in the future.

We chose this cottage as it looked cosy, close to Falmouth, and a good price. We were delighted when we arrived and it was even cosier than we expected and very homely. The host Iain was very helpful giving excellent directions (the sat nav did get confused as Iain expected)! The lovely touch of tea, coffee, milk, sugar and a biscuit each was greatly appreciated by us all after a long journey! Will definately stay here again! Let’s hope our son gets into Falmouth Uni so that we have plenty of excuses!!

Outstanding place and great hosts. The cottage was extremely cosy and clean, there were a lot of books to read and DVDs to watch. We had a great time with the ponies.  There is basically no “light pollution” so the sky at night is wonderful!

This made a great family holiday location for us. The setting was lovely and peaceful, with a couple of characterful alpacas just beyond the garden as well as two ponies in the paddock nearby. The host family themselves were so welcoming and bent over backwards to provide anything within their power to ensure our holiday went smoothly. I would recommend this destination to anyone wanting a proper Cornish country holiday.

Great hosts, truly beautiful quaint country cottage with all the modern amenities! We loved our weekend away and so did our lovely Sproker- Ollie! We will definitely be back!

We had a lovely time in our cottage. The place not only contained all necessities we needed for a longer stay but was filled with lots of nice things (books, DVDs, games, toys). The cottage provides a lot of space both inside and outside. It is a quiet and private place surrounded by many trees, yet Iain was always available if we had any questions. The place is on a small farm so kids can play outside and watch the animals. Stores (both small and large) and restaurants are available within a few minutes of driving. We want to thank our host very much and look forward to another visit to Iain’s place!

My family and I had a lovely stay. The house is well equipped and comfortable. It’s quiet. There was plenty for the kids to do and they could go off exploring in a safe environment (there were raspberries for them to pick, chickens, a pony and alpacas to feed) and a short walk away there was a rope swing over a creek. There are some walks from the property and Carn Brae is nearby too. Definitely recommended.

Iain & Julia provided some toys for our kids in addition to a baby cot and high chair. Their kids showed my son all animals around the area and his was allowed to feed them. The cottage is in perfect condition with well equiped kitchen. Last to mention the great selection of DVDs that are abailable in the house. We highly recommend this place!
